Getting
into Blogging
Before this class I have
never wrote a blog before. I never even thought about it. Although this class
made me change my perspective on blogging, I actually enjoy it now. I really
liked it because I liked how you can write whatever you want to and not be
wrong. This semester I enjoyed all the blogs but the one I enjoyed the most was,
“My playlist, Myself” because I not only enjoyed writing about myself to other
people but also I got to learn more about my class mates in a different and
creative way. My least favorite blog was the “Personal Reflection” to “You Can
Tell Everybody This is Your Song”. I did not like this post because I did not
like the article which made it hard to write. I feel since I did not like the
article this post was my weakest because I did not have much to say about it.
It is very hard to write about something you do not find interest in! The blog
post that I would like to explore further is “The Social Network Review” I
found that movie very interesting and I really liked how many different views
people could take on it. I would love to find out why Mark made the choices he
did! Which leads to my strongest post, “The Social Network Review”. I had the
most interest in this post because I enjoyed the movie so much and would really
like to know more details about the story. I feel it is my strongest because I
included a lot of my opinion which I really like to do! At first, I was a
little uncomfortable with posting my journal entries on a public form. I
noticed throughout my posts, I got stronger and stronger with writing my
opinions down. At first I was afraid of what people would say about my thoughts
but then I realized that it did not matter because they were my thoughts! That
really helped me develop my writing to my full potential because I wrote what I
truly wanted to write.

Selma was an amazing movie that accurately
showed the documentation of the steps of dedication that the African Americans
had to take in able to officially get their what was already supposed to be
given to them, right to vote. This movie captured all the emotions that the African
Americans had to face and suffer through while dealing with racist actions done
towards them. The film mainly focused on Martin Luther King Jr. and his major
role he played in the civil rights movement.
I found this film to be very interesting and
enjoyable to watch. I liked how instead of a normal and usually boring
documentation of an event, this film included the emotional side and story of
the whole process. I specifically like how it showed the emotional toll that
King's family took during the movement, how it showed the wife's supporting and
scared for his safety side. Most of all I liked how it showed what it took for
Martin Luther King to be what great leader he was. Not only did he have to
fight through the hate that he came upon but also had to show others how to be
strong and not fight back against the violence of the Whites. I liked how it
truly showed just how strong of a man King was along with all the others that
stood strong behind him.
My
prior knowledge of the movement was what I was taught in high school, which
might have been different than what others were taught. My teacher showed our
class only the political side of the movement, sadly the teacher also put in a
little racism and talked to us like she thought that the African Americans were
acting out in an almost "overly dramatic way. I am very glad that I
watched this video for it opened my eyes to more than the political aspect of
the movement. It helped give me a better understanding of the way the African
Americans had to be so careful about every action they took in fear of a White
not liking it and acting out of hate towards them. It was a tragic ending and
the people who died, died fighting and for a good cause. They were truly angels
that helped change America into the better country it is today. Without them,
without Martin Luther King, African Americans could possibly not be where they

The movie The Social Network, is a great movie
that tells the story of how the popular social media website Facebook came to
be. Many people think that Facebook was simply created by a group of people on
an agreement. This tells of the true brutally emotional eventful months before
and after the website was created and set up. It captures the emotions of all
the people who were involved in the thought process of the setup and works of
the website. It also shows Mark's own thoughts on how people treated him, while
also clearly showing the thoughts of others that were hurt and manipulated. I
think that a major theme would be that it accurately shows the message of
nothing comes easy. Mark had to come to make some pretty hard choices that
greatly impacted life as he knew it.
I found this movie very interesting to watch, I
really liked learning just how the website came to be. One would not think that
there would have been so much trouble and such a big ordeal to make the popular
website. I really liked how the viewer got to understand how Mark felt about
his choices and that he did what he had to do to make himself successful. While
the view of the others showed how they felt betrayal and loss on a big chance.
Personally I love the
website Facebook and the original idea, finding someone you just met and have
the ability to talk to them online if need be. I always thought that Mark was a
sole thinker and creator of Facebook. My personal thoughts on Mark, I agree
with what he did. Yes, I would hate him if I were one of his friends but if I
were him I would've done the same thing. Many people think he should have done
the right thing and share but Mark was the brains of the website and the only
one who was able to bring the operating website together. I think he was a
smart man who did the best thing for himself and is now a billionaire.

The play "A Raisin in the Sun" was
an amazing play. I loved how detailed it was, which helped give a good idea of
how the setting looked. I really liked this play because I like how it
shows the struggle a colored family had to go through to be even the slightest
bit close to how well the whites had it. It really captures how the little kids
do not understand the reality of the harsh world yet. for example, when Travis
asked his mother repeatedly for fifty cents for school but she has to keep
telling him they do not have it. And to make the child even more confused,
Walter Lee comes out and gives him double the amount he was asking for! I also
really liked how Beneatha's character was very bold in how she lived life and
acted. She is a colored twenty-year-old who wants to, and is on her way to,
becoming a doctor. I liked how the play showed her dedication to following her
dreams despite what everyone else in the play thought. Just because it was
uncommon for a colored girl to become a doctor back then but she was not about
to let that influence her dreams. I also really liked how her character also
broke other uncommon acts for a young colored woman, in part of the play she
speaks her own mind to Mama about how she does not believe in God. Which back
then although they had the right to freedom of speech, colored girls usually
were too afraid to speak their mind like Beneatha did.
This plays overall theme was to show how the
black community had to struggle and learn to manage their money so carefully.
This play portrayed the emotions of Mama who through the hardest of times had
to stay strong for her family. Showing the way of how to spend money and trusting
Walter Lee with it all, she was strong when he ruined it. In the end they still
moved into their new house, although unwanted in the all-white community, they
did it.
